We are seeking a reliable and motivated Geotechnical Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of field and laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt. This role requires the ability to travel extensively, including to out-of-town and remote project locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field testing, including compaction testing (nuclear densometer), concrete testing (slump, air, casting cylinders), and asphalt density testing.
- Conduct laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete samples.
- Atterberg
- Moistures
- Sulphates
- pH
- Demoulding concrete cylinders, label,s and placements in curing tank
- Proctor test (aggregates and clay)
- Assist with field investigations, including borehole and test pit logging, sampling, and site inspections.
- Maintained detailed and accurate field and laboratory records.
- Operate and maintain testing equipment by company standards.
- Drive to project sites (local and out-of-town) as required.
- Support engineers and senior technicians in daily field and office activities.
- Follow company and client health and safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory with experience).
- Prior experience in the geotechnical field and laboratory testing is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable driving long distances and staying out of town for projects.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and samples (up to 50 lbs).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
- Safety certifications such as CSTS, First Aid, or WHMIS are an asset (can be provided if needed).
