- Nuclear Density Field Test
At ZALIG we use the nuclear density gauge is a tool used to test the density of construction for parking lots, road/highway, pond liners and other earth compaction-related projects. The tool is comprised of a gamma radiation source, and Geiger Mueller tubes embedded in the gauge. When lowered into the ground and triggered it gives off just enough radiation to measure density. The Geiger Mueller tubes detect the gamma radiation that is emitted from the radiation source. ZALIG trained field employees use the nuclear density gauges primarily to determine the density of asphalt and soil. This test data is compared to design requirements or proctor tests. Poor compaction can result in asphalt or soil failure when preparing surfaces that will support structures, roadways, parking lots, and bridges. ZALIG objective is to work with contractors, construction companies, municipalities, and more to help ensure the safe and successful completion of their projects.
